02.06.2023 Unstable events and unforeseen cards

Hello everyone :D

Dustblue here. I'm thrilled to announce, that we finally visually finalized our cards.  It's been a lot of work but we are pleased with the results. Only small things might change, but the overall design is DONE.

We decided to go for an "old-printed" card look. Only two colors (for the tarot cards) but complex shapes and motives.  As normal tarot cards too, these have two sides, and their effect change depending on the side that faces the player when they draw the card. These tarot cards have generally more positive effects to encourage players to play "unstable" decks. "Unstable" means drawing a card from the "unstable deck" (the tarot deck, which I will address from now on only as "unstable deck"). Those cards symbolize the player tapping into the "unstable" powers of the molochite. However, this comes at a cost, and not, in some cases, short term. At the end of the adventure, the players will have to face a powerful enemy that scales with how often a player character has unstabled.

Unstable cards are not only important for our combat but also for out-of-combat exploration and skill checks as they replace dice. This is where the numbers on these cards are important.

Our playing cards themselves are more than just two colors. They come in six different colors, which should help our players to choose the right cards to fit their character and playstyle. These cards had quite a design journey. Readability and clarity in the playing cards were especially important for us and the player should instantly recognize what their card would do from the symbols and color alone.

While I was drawing the many unstable cards and Vik was developing the unstable mechanic, Jona was working fast and tirelessly on the actual role-playing part of our game, describing places, NPCs, and interactions as well as planning out the technicalities of travel and combat triggers. Overall, we are heading straight to the finish line, which is a huge relief since we have only four weeks left to finish our project. We've all grown fond of our twisted little world and seeing it all coming together is incredibly exciting.

Cheers
