17.03.2023 A world is born - World building and Concepting
Another week has passed, and so it's time again for a new devlog.
Hey, my name is Jona.
At the beginning of the week, I finished the short story mentioned in the last devlog, which should give a quick insight into our world. After that, we had to do some preliminary planning of the documents we wanted to have at the end of the project. All in all, we have now agreed on three documents. Each for the world-building, the rule book, and the one-shot. The documents should be written like a report, just like I did for the one-shot.
From then on, we started looking at possible scenarios and themes we could cover in the adventure. One of our first ideas, at the beginning of the project, was to create a cult around our miracle stone Molochite. And as is often the case, the first ideas are often the best. So now I have spent the last two days working out and describing said cult a bit.
Meanwhile, Vik continued to work on the rule book, and together we tested other card games. Important lessons were learned, such as that our action cards should best have clear symbols rather than confusing numerical values. The number of decks was also reduced in the process. To make it easier to test, we also expanded our current test cards and started to digitize them.
Dustlue, meanwhile, has been busy creating more initial illustrations and concept art for our various creatures, but this week also buildings, clothing, and machines of the people. More specifically, we have been expanding and illustrating aspects that also appear in the short story. A good example would be Peak City, which is located high up on a mountain and also serves as a port for airships of our world. The last was also drawn in different variations.
In the course of this, the science around our Molochite was also adjusted and brainstormed about the cult, the members, and their beliefs.
Next week, further work will be done on the world-building document from my side and the plan for the one-shot will be further developed. We are getting closer and closer to our vision.
